Abstract
This study examined the total energy intake (TEI), total energy expenditure (TEE), resting energy expenditure (REE), and lean body mass (LBM) of high school swimmers to develop a method to calculate estimated energy requirement (EER) As a result, a favorable balance between energy intake and expenditure was found in these swimmers. To calculate EER, the following formula may be used: 29.8 kcal/kg LBM/day×LBM (kg) ×physical activity level (PAL) (men: 2.7; women: 2.6). Calculating estimated energy requirements using such a method may be more effective than solely investigating diet in terms of nutrition education.
