STUDIES ON THE SPECIALIZATION OF THE STRAINS IN XANTHOMONAS ORYZAE (UYEDA et ISHIYAMA) DOWSON

Abstract

In order to make clear the strain differences of the bacterial leaf blight organism of rice plant and their distribution in Japan, a number of isolates were collected from different localities.
Classification of the lysotypes were made by means of the phage-lysis technique, using the oryzae-phages, OP1, OP1h, and 12P.
Five lysotypes or strains of the organism differing in their susceptibility against these phages were found and their distribution in Japan were discussed.
