Abstract

In Intensive Care Units (ICU), clinical staffs observe and treat many patients. They need a computer system to treat slightly status patients automatically, so they can concentrate on more critical status patients themselves. There is no that computer system that is been used in many hospitals, because such computer treatment system is like a black box for clinical staffs. It is necessary to develop a computer treatment system that is simple, useful and understandable for clinical staffs. The regulation of water balance between total fluid infusion volume and urinary volume is an important factor in stabilizing the patient condition in ICU. We have developed a fluid control system using a computer. This system controls fluid volume with confirmation of clinical staffs. The fluid infusion rate is calculated minute by minute based upon the patient's water balance and urinary volume. The calculation algorithm is based upon the same technique as a skillful clinical staffs'. And the expectation algorithm of urinary volume with the fuzzy reasoning approach is included in this algorithm. This system is applied to clinical cases. It is available for clinical staffs to treat patients.
