Extention of the depth of focus in microscopic photography

Abstract

A simple procedure has been developed to obtain a pan-focused picture of a microscopic three-dimensional sample. Portions in focus in each picture taken along the depth are picked up to synthesize a panfocused picture. Portions in-focus are detected by searching either the maxima of the local contrast or the extremes of the brightness variation along the depth.
