Abstract
This paper discusses spectroscopic data of Gd for laser isotope separation (isotope shifts, hyperfine structures and lifetimes) for 560-600 nm wavelength transitions. The possibility of selective excitation of 157Gd, using 533 cm-1→17974 cm-1, was discussed. Based on the polarization selection rules, selective photoionization of 155Gd and 157Gd was demonstrated. External magnetic field effect on isotopic selectivity was investigated experimentally and numerically. They verified that a magnetic field of 2 Gauss, for lsers with 50 ns durations, would completely destroy the selectivity.
