Abstract
We report recent progress in two-dimensional Si photonic crystal slab structures. First, we demonstrate our successful propagation-loss reduction for single-mode photonic-crystal waveguides and clarify the physical origin of scattering loss mechanisms. Second, we show several designs for improving cavity-Q of photoniccrystal resonators, and describe how to couple them to waveguides. Finally, we demonstrate all-optical bistable switching using these resonator-waveguide coupled systems and discuss their applicability to all-optical digital logical processing.
