Abstract
In this talk, the recent development of vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) technologies and also will discuss on the expansion of application areas, such as high speed networks, Fiber Channels, and VSR (very short reach). Digital interface between computers and digital equipments is another important field by utilizing arrayed capability. It is interesting to realize that VCSELs are being applied to optical sensing and imaging systems including laser printers and computer mouse. The VCSEL concept is extended to 3-D periodic structure such as photonic crystals and single photon emitters.
