Abstract
This paper surveys the recent progress in nonlinear waveguide optics of four categories: (1) nonlinear waveguiding, (2) switching characteristics in a nonlinear directional coupler, (3) optical bistability controlled by optical power, and (4) proposed devices. In comparison withlinear guide optics, we came to an understanding that nonlinear waveguide optics is suitable fordigital signal processing more than analogue one and would be a potent candidate for all-opticalparallel processing.
