Abstract

SHG and OPO characteristics of magnesium oxide-doped lithium niobate (MgO: LiNbO3) crys-tals were studied. The non-critical phase matching was established for the SHG of a Nd: YAG laser at room temperature by controlling MgO concentration. An SHG output power of 52mJ was obtained at a pump power of 102mJ, giving a conversion efficiency exceeding 50%. OPO using MgO: LiNbO3 crystals was also investigated. The oscillation in the near-infrared region from 720 to 2000nm, pumped at 532nm, was generated successfully. The maximum power of 1OmJ was obtained at 874nm when an input energy was 50mJ; this gives a conversion efficiency of about20%.
