Abstract
Optical parametric oscillation (OPO) is the most powerful method to obtain the wide range of a strong mid-IR beam. While KTiOPO4 (KTP) has many advantages as an OPO converter comparing other crystals, it has a serious absorption around 3μm (an idler beam) when pumped by Nd: YAG laser. The RbTiOPO4 (RTP) crystals that we developed can evade this problem under the same conditions. RTP crystals have the better or at least the same poten-tials compared with KTP as an SHG and an OPO converters. The SHG is attainable under the same type-2 phase matching conditions (θ=90°, φ=56°) with a little larger nonlinear coeffi-cients. We measured other basic properties of RTP and compared with KTP.
