Abstract
Chalcogenide glass fiber is one of the most promising nonlinear optical media for ultrafast all-optical switches because of its high optical nonlinearity and long interaction length. This paper reports ultrafast all-optical switching device using chalcogenide glass fibers. Recent stu-dies of nonlinear optical properties of the chalcogenide glass, single mode fiber fabrications, optical Kerr shutter experiments and calculation analysis taking the effect of group velocity dispersion into account are summarised. Effect of two photon absorption on all-optical switch-ing are also discussed.
