Abstract
For obtaining shorter wavelength laser glass without using nonlinear optical crystal, The fluorescence properties of Eu3+ were investigated in various glasses. The Eu3+ dopedborosilico-phosphate glass has the highest emission intensity of 5D0→→7F2 transition comparedwith other glasses, because it can be doped with high concentration of Eu3+. The energy transferand energy backtransfer in Eu3+ -Sm3+ doped borosilico-phosphate glasses were also investigated. The energy transfer from Sm3+ to Eu3+ is very efficient and the energy backtransferfrom Eu3+ to Sm3+ is low. The Eu3+ -Sm3+ doped borosilico-phosphate glass has a verystrong emission in visible range (0.61μm) for the 5D0→→7F2 (Eu3+) transition. The emission intensityis about the same as Nd3+ doped phosphate glass (LHG8) at 1.06μm.
