Abstract
Magnetic field dependences on specific heats of liquid crystals with both smectic-A and nematic phases (CBOOA, CBOA, EMBAC) have been measured by the ac-calorimetry with using CO2 laser beam as a heating source. The system used has the resolution for the temperature width of the phase transition of 0.04°C and for the enthalpy change of about 80 Jmol-1.
In the nematic phase, specific heats of liquid crystals increase proportionally to square of applied magnetic field. Taking magnetic field dependences on specific heats, it will be discussed the temperature dependence of the diamagnetic susceptibility.
