This paper analyzes how diversity in management accounting practices in small and medium-sized family businesses(SME family businesses)is generated, based on case studies of three firms. The analysis suggests that diverse management accounting practices are produced not by socioemotional wealth(SEW)itself, but rather by managers' the allocation of attention and the recognition of strategic issues as SEW as a decision-making criterion for managers, both of which are influenced by contextual factors.
