Charge Spectrometry of Decayed Atoms in Some Alkyl Halides: Existence of Parent Ions and Their Hydrogen-Deficient Species

Abstract

Using the Tohoku Charge Spectrometer the presence of the parent ion and its hydrogen-deficient species was elucidated in the isomeric transition of D^80mBr, H^80mBr and C₂H₅^80mBr. Similar phenomena were also observed in the β-decay of CH₃¹³¹ I and CH₃¹²⁶I. These experimental results were compared with those by X-ray irradiation and charge exchange reactions with positive ions, and were discussed in connection with the explosion model proposed by Carlson et al.
