Orthothecium intricatum (HARTM.) B. S. G. is reported for the first time from Japan. Two collections were made on moist calcareous soil at the Unkai limestone cave, Chichibu, Saitama Pref., Japan. One collection has some leaves with margins weakly recurved on part of the leaf, but the slightly secund and narrow, long-acuminate leaves suggest an identity with O. intricatum. Similar variation is also found in the European collections.
