The protonema of Nipponolejeunea pilifera (STEPH.) HATT. is depressed ellipsoid composing of 20-30 cells and shows dorsiventral structure. This feature seems to be a new sporeling type in Lejeuneaceae different from that of Jubula.
The author wishes to name this new sporeling pattern as “Nipponolejeunea-type”.
