Abstract
Recently, several workers have reported on the seasonal occurrence of Culicoides collected by light traps in Japan. Shogaki in 1953 reported "On the seasonal succession of biting midges caught by light trap in Kyoto and the frequency of wing spot variations on Culicoides arakawae (Arakawa)." In 1956 Ueno and others studied the species and seasonal incidence of Culicoides in the Tokyo area from the view point of veterinary medicine. Nagahana and Toyama reported the species and seasonal prevalence of biting midges caught by light trap in Yonago city, Tottori Prefecture, and western Honshu in 1956. Takahashi and others have recently published notes on Culicoides (Diptera : Ceratopogonidae) in Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
