Studies on black flies of the Nansei Islands, Japan (Simuliidae; Diptera) : I. On six species of the subgenus Eusimulium Roubaud, with the descriptions of Simulium (E). satsumense sp. nov. and S. (E.) subcostatum koshikiense ssp. nov.

Abstract

This series of papers is based on specimens collected from the Nansei Islands (Ryukyus) of Japan. In this first paper, of 18 taxa of black flies so far recognized in the course of the study, 6 species belonging to the subgenus Eusimulium Roubaud are treated : Simulium (E.) uchidai Takahasi (new record), S. (E.) subcostatum koshikiense ssp. nov., S. (E.) aureohirtum Brunetti, S. (E.) satsumense sp. nov., S. (E). mie Ogata & Sasa (new record) and S. (E.) morisonoi Takaoka. S. (E.) satsumense sp. nov. is the first member of the aureum-group in Japan.
