Abstract

Etofenprox was applied to control Aedes albopictus adults using a motorized backpack mist blower, and its effect on target and non-target invertebrates was evaluated in areas where plants were being grown on the grounds of a machine factory in Chiba during the summer of 2017. Ae. albopictus adults were found to be significantly reduced to 0 individuals when collected using the eight-minute human bait sweeping collection method the day after insecticide application and again two days after application. Ae. albopictus adults were collected both treatment and non-treatment stations 20 days after insecticide application. In addition, non-target invertebrates, especially pillbugs, were reduced after insecticide application. Pillbugs were also reduced to 0 individual one day after insecticide application and were re-collected both treated and non-treated stations eight days after insecticide application. The present study indicates that space spraying of chemical insecticides is a useful method for controlling mosquitoes such as Ae. albopictus but its impact on non-target invertebrates.
