Abstract
New trans-reflective type display comprising two stacked liquid crystal cells with reflective polarizers has been developed. The first TN panel is operated as a "metal-shutter" which has transparent and specular states. The second TN panel displays information while the "metal-shutter" opens. The display provides a unique combination of attractive variation in design and excellent legibility. These characteristics allow the display to be used effectively in application to digital watches.
