Abstract

The applicability of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to the determination of the oxidation state of vanadium in minerals is studied. Using this technique, vanadium-rich aegirine (Na, Ca) (Fe, V)Si₂O₆ is found to contain vanadium as trivalent state.
