Abstract
The author reports the little known custom of "biolocal" marriage on Toshima Island, where both husband and wife stay with and work for the husband's family in the daytime and spend the night at the wife's parents' house, until the husband's father goes into retirement and establishes a new household. After that time, the husband succeeds to his father's position and brings his wife and children, if any, to his own house.
