Abstract
Sector-like MOS·HIGE (magnesium hydroxide sulfate hydrate) with composites MgSO4·5Mg (OH) 2·3H2O were synthesized by a hydro-thermal reaction at about 200°C using MgSO4 and NaOH aqueous solutions. They are composed of many whiskers whose growth direction is parallel to the b axis. MOS·HIGE treated thermally were examined by X-ray diffraction and temperature-programmed mass spectrometer (TPMS). The results suggest that MOS·HIGE are dehydrated at both 300°C and 450°C, and are decomposed into MgSO4 and MgO above 450°C.
