Abstract
The outhors have investigated the properties of highly reactive pelletized limes obtained by a new atempt that the limestone powder is formed and then burned to make the pellet.
It was found that the apparent porosity of the pelletized lime is 66%, which corresponds to 1.5 times of the porosity in commercial limes for steelmaking. In addition the energy needed to burn the pelletized lime is much less than that for the massive lime, because the pelletized lime can be burned for shorter time at lower temperature.
The pores of 1-5 μm diameter, which occupy 66% of the total pore volume, are distributed most in the pelletized lime. The excellent properties of the pelletized lime are caused by the distribution of many pores of 1-5 μm diameter.
