Abstract

In recent years, diversity of genetic resources has been threatened due to rapid changes in agricultural techniques, rapid and sudden changes in the environment, an increase in human population and many other reasons. Conservation of genetic diversity is one of the most important agenda for us to convey valuable resources to next generations. Thus, we must urgently collect and conserve the genetic resources for a long term under proper conditions. Cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen has been recognized as the most reliable, cost- and space-ef?cient, and the safest methods to maintain stability of genetic resources. There are several different cryopreservation protocols employed including vitri?cation-based methods, which have been successfully applied to various resources including plant shoot tips, mycelia, embryos, sperms, ovaries, testes, and primordial germ cells.
