Abstract

The changes of amount of consumption of staple foods and the difference of kinds of staple foods between urban and rural in Meiji era were estimated through the analysis of agricultural statistics and “diet survey data”. Amount of consumption of rice and barley had been increased in Meiji era. There was difference in the kind of staple foods between urban and rural areas. Urban people consumed boiled rice and rural people consumed boiled barley.
