Considerations about Maintenance and Optimization of the Regional Public Transport System: The Transport Policy in Maebashi

Abstract

Due to the population decline and ageing, the role of maintaining and optimizing the regional public transport system has shifted from the national government to the local administrations. This study purpose is to draw attention to the following issues: the legal unification of the regional public transport system and the city planning system; the importance of the civic participation to secure transportation; the importance of a fare policy for the implementation of the compact city policy.
