A Study on Educational Policies to Ensure Women’s Active Participation: The Historical Background and Activities of Establishment of Women’s Classes at the Community

Abstract

This study aims to clarify how policy that addresses active participation of women has evolved over time by examining Gifu Prefecture’s historical approaches towards the matter. In particular, the process of establishing and developing various women’s classes at the municipal level, driven by policies aimed at promoting women’s education in Japan after World War II, was examined. By keeping in mind the historical reasons for enacting policy as well as the current situation of women’s education, the characteristics and contradictions of current policy can be scrutinized in greater detail.These findings may provide insights on modern day policies in different regions and provide ideas for improving community development as it relates to women’s education.
