Abstract

In this study, vibration damping experiments on actual steel hyperbolic paraboloidal shell structures (HP shell A:53m x 53m, HP shell B:44m x 44m) were carried out to clarify the damping characteristics of the shells, and also to aid in preparing a data base on damping ratios of shell and spatial structures for use in analyzing dynamic response.
The following results have been obtained. HP shell A (in Tokyo, Japan): Damping ratios of the shell by microtremor observation and the impact vibration test are 2.2% and 3.2%, respectively. HP shell B (in Chiba, Japan): Damping ratios of the shell by microtremor observation and the impact vibration test are 1.4% and 3.1%, respectively.
