Abstract

This paper presents a new boundary element formulation using the Laplace-domain fundamental solutions to obtain transient solutions for 2-D wave propagation problems. The new boundary element method is based on the convolution quadrature method (CQM) proposed by Lubich. Even though the classical convolution quadrature boundary element method (CQ-BEM) needs much computational memory, the new boundary element method presented here requires less memory. As numerical examples, SH wave scattering by cavities is analyzed to validate the proposed new boundary element formulation and to check its computational accuracy and required memory.
