Abstract
We recently found that naphthylene ether trimer could be synthesized selectively by reacting 2,7-dihydroxy naphthalene under alkali condition. The epoxy resin obtained from the trimer showed excellent flame retardancy (1 second, UL-94), and high heat resistance (200°C, DMA Tg). Additionally, good solubility in conventional solvents, low coefficient of thermal expansion and low moisture absorption were confirmed. As a result, a new epoxy resin suitable for the advanced application such as high-tech electronics parts was developed.
In this paper, we report the synthesis, properties, and effect of “naphalene” and “ether” skeletons.
