Abstract
The behavior of formaldehyde molecule in the mixture composed of formaldehyde-water-methanol is constitutionally and quantitatively analyzed by means of 13C-FTNMR.
It has already been reported that formaldehyde molecules exist as oligomer in the formaline, formaldehyde-water solution. After our investingation, however, on the influences of its pH, temperature and formaldehyde and methenol concentration about the constitution of the oligomer, we decided that among these factors it was by the pH value of the solution to change most effectively the constitution of the oligomer in it.
As seen from Fig.5, under the acidic condition polymerization of formaldehyde proceeds and under the alkaline condition reverses. Moreover under the strong alkaline condition could be determined that methyletherization took place between methylol melamine and methanol.
