Abstract

There are a variety of factors behind communication disorders after frontal lobe damage, e.g., non-fluent aphasia, confabulation, executive dysfunction, disinhibition, and social cognition dysfunction. Some patients with frontal lobe damage reveal a big gap between words and actions, which is addressed in this article. Using 61 patients with cerebrovascular diseases who were accompanied by their family members, backgrounds behind this gap were analyzed. This gap was found to be related to disinhibition and possibly associated with a lesion in the right ventromedial prefrontal cortex. In addition, this gap had a significant effect on caregiver's burden.
