A revision of the Japanese species of the subgenus Metatrichocera Dahl, 1966 of the genus Trichocera Meigen, 1803 (Diptera; Trichoceridae)

Abstract

Japanese species of the subgenus Metatrichocera Dahl, 1966 of the genus Trichocera Meigen, 1803 are revised. Six new species, T. (M.) bifurcata, T. (M.) truncata, T. (M.) monstrosa, T. (M.) cor data ,T. (M.) hypandrialis ,and T. (M.) corallifera ,are described. A redescriptio nof T. (M.) mirabilis Alexander, 1934 is given. Some comments on T. (M.) crassicauda Nakamura et Saigusa, 1996 and T. (M.) chaetopyga Nakamura et Saigusa, 1996, are mentioned. Illustrations of these species and keys to the Japanese species of this subgenus are given. The probable polyphyly of Metatrichocer aand phylogenetic relationshio of some species are discussed.
