Abstract
Black liquor is a waste product from the Kraft cooking mill. It consists of the leftover organic substances such as lignin, carbohydrates, and extractives. Black liquor is the largest source of energy from wood, and it is also the most important renewable energy source. Renewable energy sources such as black liquor contribute to reducing fossil fuel consumption in the pulp and paper industry.
