Abstract
In halftone dot printing, the printing quality depends on reproduction of halftone dots which is affected by surface roughness of paper and rheological properties of ink and other. In this study, shape and reproduction of halftone dots are evaluated by a method of fractal analysis using a fractal dimension of envelope edge of halftone dot, quantitatively. The fractal dimension of edge for completed dot is close to unity. From experimental result, it is concluded as following: In case of larger area ratio of halftone dot, the distribution of fractal dimension is small, and the reproduction of halftone dot is better. Moreover, for using smooth paper, the fractal dimension shows small value and halftone dot is exactly reproduced, comparatively. Further, for using ink of higher viscosity, the reproduction of halftone dot is better, however the ratio of area where ink was not transferred is larger for the rougher paper.
