Abstract
This paper describes recent development in direct digital color proofing systems with laser thermal transfer printing technology. A laser exposure method is indispensable to accomplish very accurate half-tone reproduction and high resolution in printed images. Thermo-fusible-ink transfer printing technology has a great advantage compared with other printing technologies, because the same pigments as conventional printing-process-ink can be used as coloring agents. This fact is one of the most important factors for accurate color reproduction. From these points of view, we have examined the DDCP system with a laser exposure device and thermo-fusible-ink materials, and observed good repeatability to obtain sharp images with accurate color reproduction and half-tone reproduction.
