Reufsal of Suitors : In the Case of Yukimasa, Nakayori, Tadakoso & Toei in The Tale of Utsuho(Report from Third Meeting of Ancient Literature Section)

Abstract

These four suitors, Yukimasa, Nakayori, Tadakoso and Toei have been thought as characters from precedent stories through the process of arrangement. From the whole view of the text, they have a characteristic common to all that they proposed to a heroine Ate-miya, but in spite of their fame for culture in the aristocratic society, they were refused as result. This shows the nature of the story.
