"Kakuren-ryusen," the fifth part of Tuzura-bumi, has been read as if it were a version of Ugetsu-monogatari and Harusame-monogatari with a different literary style. The difference, however, seems to be not only in style but also in the subject itself, which treats a wise man in secular society. Here I will put an emphasis on the story's di・ver・gence from the original texts and also point out its importance in Tuzura-bumi.
