Abstract

Textual analysis of dialogue in novels is conducted from a perspective of stylistic theory.

The angles of analysis are as follows.

〇Compare real conversations with dialogue sentences in novels

〇Examine female gender and Kansai dialect in conversation text with specific examples.

〇Clarify the relationship between dialogue and narrative sentences.

〇Investigate the characteristics of notation found in conversational texts.

As a result

・The dialogue in novels aims for a unique realism. To achieve this goal, female gender and dialects are incorporated to create a sense of realism.

・Dialogue, including descriptions of the conversation's atmosphere before and after it, even if it is a small amount, arouses the reader's imagination and reasoning.

・Narrative parts and dialogues share roles and functions in novels.

・There are various options for the notation of dialogue sentences, such as symbols and types of letters, which are related to the style of the novel.

In the future, I would like to use a large-scale corpus to conduct a more detailed comparative study of the writing style of dialogue sentences and narrative parts.
