Acupuncture and moxibustion, which are traditional medicine, work on the “mind” and “body” to enhance the natural healing power and help people adapt to changes in their environment and reach their full potential to lead better lives.
In recent years, there have been an increasing number of people who have physical concerns such as feeling tired, stiff shoulders and back pain, tired eyes, cold feet, and inability to sleep well, even though examinations at hospitals show no abnormalities. The essence of acupuncture and moxibustion is “pre-disease treatment”, and it is excellent in terms of preventive medicine to prevent illness from becoming serious or to maintain and improve health.
This is the first time in 12 years that an acupuncture and moxibustion department has been established at a Japanese university. In addition, it is the first time along the Sea of Japan, and there are great reactions and expectations from those involved.
In this department, after acquiring a solid knowledge of modern medicine, students acquire a variety of acupuncture and moxibustion techniques through clinical training at the university-affiliated acupuncture and moxibustion center on campus, medical institutions, nursing and welfare facilities, and sports-related facilities. We aim to develop acupuncturists who can provide highly satisfying treatment while collaborating with other practitioners in the medical and health fields such as sports, beauty, etc., and presenting the role of acupuncture and moxibustion in team medical care.
The department also intends to actively contribute to the Niigata Journal of Health and Welfare.
