Synthesis of N, N'-Bis(1-acetonylethylidene)ethylenediamine Complex of Europium(II) Chloride

Abstract

N, Y-bis(1-acetonylethylidene)ethylenediamine (AEH₂) complex of europium (U) chloride was prepared by adding acetone into a mixed methanol solution of EuCl2H₂0 and AEH₂ under nitrogen atmosphere at room temperature. Chemical analysis, conductance measurement, IR and UV spectra indicated that the formula of the complex is Eu(AEH₂)Cl2. The valency of europium was confirmed to be divalent from the magnetic susceptibility measurement. The complex is unstable in the presence of oxygen.
