Abstract

Most of fitting rooms used in clothing stores are usually designed based on the human body size and dressing motions of healthy adults. Therefore, they are not always useful for older persons and disabled persons. In this study, we investigated the dressing motion of various types of the physical disabilities, and developed the design standards of new type of fitting rooms on the idea of universal design. Experiments were conducted with the full-scale mockups of the fitting room, and positive evaluations were obtained from the people with physical disabilities. Based on the results of this study, we succeeded in the commercialization of the fitting room.
