Abstract
Diagnostic medical mycology is concerned with the etiologic diagnosis of fungus infections by means of demonstration, isolation and identification of infectious agents. It is important to recognize the common contaminants which can be found on media inoculated with materials from human lesions because etiologic significance has been ascribed erroneously to such organisms. Slide cultures inoculated directry with materials taken from the lesions for rapid identification of Candida albicans and Sporotrichum schenckii were demonstrated. A preperation in a drop of 20% polyethylenglycol KOH is useful as well as 10% KOH in water.
