Abstract
We reported two infantile cases of severe burn. A 1-year-old boy received deep dermal burns over 60% of his entire body except for head and extremities. He developed a hypoglycemia attack 30 hours after injury followed by pancytopenia, while he was treated with fluid resusitation. He died of DIC due to sepsis on the day 5 after injury. In this case, the species of bacteria detected from the blood culture suggested that the endogenius endotoxin shock was related to the hypoglycemia attack. In the second case, a 2-year-old boy received superficial dermal burns over 80% of his body except for his head. His high-dose intake of salty foods and apple juice had not been noticed until he developed pulmonary edema 26 days after injury, although he had survived the early post-burn period. Although fluid resusitation has been stressed for the treatment of severe burns, these two cases suggest the importance of nutrition suport paticularly in childhood.
