Abstract
The clinical effectiveness and the change in quality of life (QOL) by oral olopatadine hydrochloride were evaluated in 62 patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis at several dermatologic clinics in Fukuoka city and the neighborhood from April 2001 to July 2002. Both the itching score and the condition of the skin lesion were significantly improved within 2 weeks. After 8 weeks, rate of improvement of itchiness and the condition of skin lesions were 95% and 97% respectively. QOL of the patients was gradually but clearly improved by olopatadine hydrochloride, especially social functioning of QOL, for example, selection of clothes and restriction of association with their friends were improved. The results of the present study suggest that olopatadine hydrochloride is clinically effective for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in association with improvement of QOL of the patients.
