Abstract
We report a patient with necrotizing fasciitis whose life was saved by left shoulder disarticulation. A 82-year-old woman had water blister and swelling in the left forearm. On the next day after she visited other hospital, her water blister and swelling became severe She therefore came back to our hospital on foot. Within a few hours, skin lesion aggravated, and spread to her axillary region. Necrotizing fasciitis was diagnosed and Streptococcus pyogenes was cultured in her water blister. She undergone emergency left shoulder disarticulation. Intravenous antibiotics, including piperacillin and clindamycin, were added just after operation. About one month after operation, her general conditions improved.
