Abstract

This is a clinical study of tuberculous spondylitiss in our department in the past ten years. 18 cases were investigated: 6 cases treated conservatively and 12 cases operatively.
On the whole, we had good results both on the conservative and operative treatment, but the average period of bed rest and hospitalization was longer in the non-operative than in the operative treatment. Biopsy seemed to be most reliable method to get diagnosis of tuberculous spondylitis in early stages, although there were some cases which could not be diagnosed with biopsy only. Once diagnosis of tuberculous spondylitis is made, operative treatment should be taken in consideration.
