Osteosarcoma is generally believed to originate from a single lesion. Rarely, however, there are cases presenting with bone lesions involving multiple bones. Such a condition is called multicentric osteosarcoma and is regarded as representing a unique entity among osteosarcomas. This particular condition of bone malignancy may be classified into two types, i. e. synchronous type in which multiple lesions occur at the same time and metachronous type which is characterized by the occurrence of multiple lesions at a certain interval after that of the primary.
This paper reports 2 cases of osteosarcoma probably of the metachronous type experienced by us recently, with comment of relevant literature.
